The Sunnyside House at The Interlaken Inn

One of the things we love about our property is being able to offer so many different types of accommodations. In this post, we are giving all the details of our beloved Sunnyside House.

Sunnyside was built in 1891 by local contractor, Charles Vosburg, who also did work at Lime Rock Park. Over the years, Vosburg's hard work has been maintained & cherished by both guests and employees. In the 1930s, The Percy's (who owned the Interlaken from 1924-1956) had their daughter Sarah and her two young boys living in Sunnyside almost every summer. Will & Jack had the best time running around the Sunnyside porch and causing chaos for their grandparents all over the property. The two both ended up working here at the Interlaken and if you ever had a group in the Will Rogers Room (now the fitness center/screening room) that is him! In the late 80s, our current Innkeeper lived there as he started out his family of six children and since then, two of those children have lived in Sunnyside as well. Sunnyside has deep roots, and we love being able to continue creating memories inside the walls of this beautiful home.

As it stands now, Sunnyside has 12 guest rooms.

Ten of these rooms have a king bed, full bath, and all the original details incorporated into the design. The other two have slightly different setups, with one being our largest pet-friendly room 150:

This room's entrance is on the ground level & it has a king bed with a queen-size pullout. This is perfect for pet parents who need a little extra space. There is also our Sunnyside Suite, which has a king bed and a small seating area with a pull-out couch & half bath. This is on the second floor, room 156.

Recently, we started a long journey of renovations to Sunnyside which started with two of the rooms off the porch getting brand-new bathrooms. The plan will be to do them all, but given its' age & character, we have to be very gentle with Sunnyside and work things in little by little. Eventually, all of the bathrooms will look like these two:

No matter what room you have in Sunnyside, you have access to the beautiful wrap-around porch that overlooks the vast green lawn. Through the breeze of the trees, you can see glimpses of Lake Wononpakook. It's the perfect place for long chats over morning coffee, afternoon tea, or dinner from Morgan's Restaurant.
