5 Things To Do 5 Minutes from the Interlaken Inn
At the Interlaken Inn, we pride ourselves on having plenty to do right here on our property, but as fall approaches and some of our outdoor amenities begin to shut down for the season, we wanted to share some of our favorite easy things to do close by! Plus, it never hurts to explore the beautiful northwest corner of Connecticut. The following spots are just about a 5-minute drive from our inn!
1. Visit Harney & Son's Tea Room
Harney & Son's is a global tea brand, loved by millions, & it all started right here in Salisbury, CT! To honor the tradition, we have our very own blend of Harney & Son's tea, which is available for purchase in our gift shop. For tea enthusiasts looking for more blends to try, their storefront is located in the adorable town of Millerton, New York which is full of lots of local shops to explore. The shop is actually located in the same parking lot as our top wedding florist, Country Gardeners! You might want to stop in for some flowers to go with your tea.
2. Walk the Harlem Valley Rail Trail
From the Harney & Son's parking lot, you'll notice a paved trail going across the street and back- this is the Harlem Valley Rail Trail! This completely flat path is 46 miles full of enchanting scenery through the Hudson Valley and Taconic Hills. It's the perfect place to get in a leisurely walk and enjoy the views and glimpses of wildlife from cranes to turtles crossing the trail.
3. Get lunch at The Boathouse
Our restaurant, Morgan's is not open for lunch so our chefs can prepare our decadent dinner menu & ever-happening catered meals for groups or weddings. Luckily, The Boathouse is the perfect option for lunch and is just on the other side of the lake! Whether you're in the mood for burgers, salads, or sushi, they have something for everyone. They offer ample indoor seating as well as outdoor, where pups can dine with you (perfect for our guests staying in Woodside).
4. Shop at the Salisbury General Store
Another 5 minutes down the road, you'll enter the main part of Salisbury, CT- where you'll find the post office, town hall, the Scoville Memorial Library, and the best part, The Salisbury General Store. This shop has all the accouterments of the traditional general store/pharmacy it has been since 1935, plus tons of gift items including Lakeville/Salisbury tee shirts & sweatshirts, candles, locally made soaps, and more!
5. Make a visit to The Grove
As you head back towards the inn, you can make a stop at the Salisbury Town Grove (free to enter after labor day until memorial day) to have a picnic, let the kids run around on the playground, or let your toes hit the sand on the small beach leading up to the lake. There are plenty of picnic tables and grills in the grass as well- the perfect family spot!
