The Perfect PUP gift!

Not sure what to get your beloved canine this year?  Forego the usual chewy bone and squeaky toy, and take your dog away on vacation!  We have the perfect “Pet-away” package they will love!  It includes your pet friendly accommodation, dinner for two in our restaurant Morgan’s, a welcome basket of wine and cheese for the adults and some special treats for your pup, and breakfast the next day.  To make sure your pup has the most peaceful and comfortable night’s rest, we now have a plush dog bed and a cozy quilt just for him.  As part of the package, we also give you a 20% coupon for Petpourri, the cute pet shop in Lakeville, CT – a place you can buy your loyal friend a little souvenir!  Trust me, if you go with this package as a present for your dog, he’ll be more loyal to you then he already is!   Find out more details and book your package on-line at http://www.interlakeninn.com/packages/packages.html#petaway.

Scrapping the Weekend away!

That is what 40 women are doing at this very moment at the Interlaken!  They began their weekend Friday with a welcome reception of wine and cheese, followed by dinner, and then cropped the rest of the night away!  Saturday, more of the same – three meals, more wine and cheese – and hours of scrapping and cropping!  I love wandering through the conference rooms, looking over each scrapper’s shoulder to see their creativity.  I spoke to one woman who was able to finish two 12×12 books this weekend, one being a gift for her Mom for Christmas.  The Interlaken property is so conducive for crafting groups, so get yours together and drop Kristy Barto an email at kristy@interlakeninn.com to make the arrangements!  I would love to blog about your group someday soon!

The Sun and the Wind

In keeping with our “Going Green” Certification, we are now looking into alternate forms of energy from our Mother Earth friends – the sun and the wind.  Because the Interlaken has a Southwest exposure from the Sun on our main lodge, we become an ideal property for solar intervention.  We are also between two bodies of water, so the prevailing winds in the atmosphere make it ideal for windpower.  We have begun to investigate both of these renewable energies as Interlaken continues to reduce its carbon footprint in our quest to become a Connecticut Green Lodging Facility.

Composting has begun!

As promised, we had our composters installed last week, and in just one week, one unit is already full!  Fruit skins, vegetable trimmings, egg shells, apple cores, potato peelings – any waste from fruits and vegetables are all added into the composter and mixed with a “starter” as well as fallen leaves and twigs from our property.  The unit is mixed every few days, and it will slowly breakdown, and we’ll be able to add more scraps and by Spring, we’ll have 3 full units to put back into our gardens.  And then start all over again!  Giving back to the earth is the defnition of composting!   More to our earth, less to the landfill.  Connecticut Green Certification HERE WE COME!
