DOG DAYS of Summer!
The Canaan Railroad days are in progress, and the Pet Adoption Center is doing very well! As of yesterday, the report was that seventy rescued dogs have found new homes! They (the Companion Pet Rescue Northeast) are set up at the Green at McDonald’s today through 5pm with more dogs ready to be adopted. You know if you stop by you will fall in love and head home with a canine in your car!
More dog fun: The Harlem Valley Festival of the Dog 2010 is happening today until 4pm at the Ledgewood Kennels in Millerton, NY. A dog show, dock dogs (measuring their jump into the water), flyball and frisbee, dog vendors – if you love dogs this seems like to the place to be today! Find them at 639 Smithfield Road in Millerton, less than 10 minutes from the Interlaken property.
Next Sunday, July 18th, Dyna is having a party for Dogs! Who is Dyna? Dyna is an Airedale who lives in West Cornwall, CT with her devoted owners, the Gannetts. Dogs and their owners can stroll through their landscaped park-like property and then have some fun time at the pool. The Gannetts have been acknowledged for their beautiful grounds by the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Gardens. Even if you don’t have a dog, you are welcome to stroll and admire this lovely property. This walk is part of a support effort of the Little Guild of St. Francis located in West Cornwall, so donations of $5 or more are appreciated. Click here for more information on this cute event.
Speaking of the Little Guild, planning is well underway for the 50th Gala celebration happening at the Interlaken property on Sunday, October 24th. The Little Guild has been placing homes for both dogs and cats for 50 years – everyone part of their organization has such a passion for what they do. Stayed tuned to my blog for more details on this upcoming event for all dog lovers!
It’s cool and breezy in the trees!
In hot weather like this, we all need to hear this kind of thing! And we also need to find out where these trees are! It’s at the Catamount Adventure Park in South Egremont, MA, just 25 minutes from the Interlaken property. They said this on Facebook the other day, and it makes me want to get harnessed up and zip through the trees! Sound like fun?! Let me tell you more: The park is open every day from 9am to 5pm and is for ages eight and up. If you’ve never done it, there’s a course for beginners, and if you’ve done zip lines several times before, there are also challenges for you as well! There are 115 platforms spread over the 5 acre wooded setting with ropes/cables/wood and zip lines to get you from one platform to another. The challenge is getting to each platform, and getting there as efficiently as possible. Don’t worry, you are always attached to the life lines between the platforms! I haven’t done this yet myself, but a Guest did and he told me it was a great way to spend quality time with his family – and it was lots of fun too! Visit Catamount’s website for more details – click here!
A Day Trip to the Berkshires!
This past weekend at the Interlaken sure was a busy one. Most of our Guests took advantage of the gorgeous weather and relaxed at the lake and swam in the pool. The tennis courts were booked, ELLORA took many spa services, the restaurant was full for dinner each night while Guests tried entrees from the new summer menu. And the dogs! We had so many Guests traveling with their pets this weekend. Since many Guests were here for 3 days, many wanted to take a “day trip” – so we pulled out our Berkshires map and highlighted the routes up to Great Barrington and points beyond. Tanglewood, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Berkshire Botanical Gardens, and the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Theater are just a few of the items to put on the “to do” list. In fact, Tanglewood’s Opening night for the Boston Symphony Orchestra is this Friday, July 9th at 8:30pm.
Click here for a full schedule! Park along Main Street in Great Barrington and browse through the many shops and boutiques. Add some scenic hiking to your list and you are all set! Come back in the early evening to be freshen up for your dinner in Morgan’s – your turn to try the new summer menu!
Baby, it’s HOT outside!
When it’s this hot, what can one do besides staying inside planted near a blasting A/C? If you are staying at the Interlaken, there’s many fun things to do to beat this heat! Let’s start with the obvious – take a swim in our outdoor heated pool! Starting with 3 feet in the shallow end, the bright blue water is certain to cool you off! There are plenty of chaise lounges and umbrellas to keep the hot sun away. The next option is swimming in the lake at our private lakefront area. Canoes, kayaks, a paddle boat, docks for swimming, chairs for resting (yes, there are plenty of areas in the shade!) – the lake is perfect for the hot hazy days of summer. If that blasting A/C is truly what you crave, then you know movie theaters are always a good option! The Moviehouse in Millerton, NY, just 6 minutes away from the Interlaken, has the latest shows and is offering matinees all this week beginning at 1pm. Toy Story 3, Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and Grown-ups are the featured choices. Another cool place to visit is the bowling alley up in Great Barrington, Mass – about 30 minutes from Interlaken. How about guys against the girls? We played there yesterday and the girls ruled both games! Head back to the Interlaken, have some dinner in Morgan’s, and then off to our game room (air-conditioned of course!) – choose pool, air hockey or ping pong, or play a game of cards at our poker tables. There are so many fun and inexpensive ways to stay cool at Interlaken this summer!
A Happy Guest!
My name is Crystal and I am the “Guest” Blogger today! I am staying in the Woodside accommodation for a few weeks with my Grandma. She is taking very good care of me. I love it here. My room has a big bed and even a little couch that I like to lay on. There’s a refrigerator in the room where my Grandma keeps my food. She also has some biscuits for me, but she keeps these up on the desk. I tried to reach them, but I can’t. My Grandma takes me for walks all over the Interlaken property. It’s really big, but I have a lot of energy. My favorite place to stop along the way is at the front desk – they always give me treats there! I don’t like to swim, but there is a lake and I’ve seen other dogs swimming in it. This holiday weekend the Woodside building is full of dogs! I love it! I have made new friends – Fritz is a big black beautiful poodle who also likes staying at the Interlaken. Some of my new dog friends are sleeping on a very posh pet bed that Interlaken provides – request one for yourself! There aren’t many hotels that allow dogs, but Interlaken does and I am happy. When I am happy, my owners are happy! Like I said, I’ll be here a few more weeks, so if you want to come and stay in the Woodside house, just call up Interlaken and make a reservation. You can also go to their website and book a room there. Sometimes I find it hard to type with my paws and all. Anyway, I hope to meet you soon!
