What’s your speed?
Even though the track can be the host of an amazing fireworks show (presented by the Salisbury Rotary Club), it’s probably best and more appropriately known for it’s car racing! This coming weekend, July 2nd and 3rd, is the Nascar Doubleheader Race. The Nascar Whelen Modified tour is teaming up with K&N Pro Series, and the SCCA Trans Am Racing series will also provide some exciting racing! If this race weekend isn’t enough, mark your calendars for the famous ALMS series happening on July 23rd and 24th – Lime Rock claims these prototypes and GT cars are “wicked fast” and also use “green” technology – which is quite interesting! (Interlaken likes “green things” – we are a Connecticut Certified Green Property) Click here to be led to the Lime Rock park website for more details!
If simply driving to a cute New England town is more your speed, then visit the Green in Sharon, CT for a taste of Sharon this weekend! A cocktail reception with tastes of old recipes from Sharon will be held Friday evening, and then on Saturday from 10am to 4pm is the open house – bring a picnic (take a “to go” lunch from Morgan’s – talk about tasty food!) and enjoy some free fun – the weather is supposed to be warm and sunny! The Green is located right in the heart of Sharon!
Leisurely shopping for fresh, local fruits and vegetables is more your style? Check out the many Farmer’s Markets available every Saturday morning, including the one in Millerton between Main Street and Century Boulevard. Vendors showcase their goods from 9am to 1pm – and it’s more than just locally grown fruit and veggies – fish, wine, pasta, honey, heritage breed beef, pork and chicken, fruit pies, soup – and much more! Click here for more details!
Check back tomorrow for more July activities!
July kicks off with a Bang!
I’m not just referring to the annual Fireworks show at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, CT, just 6 minutes from the Interlaken property. There are so many fun things happening this coming month that I thought I’d share some with you each blog this week (and of course throughout the month at things pop up!) So let’s see what’s happening!
So of course, back to those amazing Fireworks at Lime Rock. The park opens at 6pm for picnicking, allowing you 3 hours to relax on a big blanket with some food and drink (concession is available) while you wait for the show to begin at 9pm. The cost is $15 per car, and every spot on the grounds are wonderful! Sorry, but dogs are not permitted.
Tri Arts Playhouse in Sharon, CT opened with its first production of the summer season with “The Wedding Singer” which will run through July 11th. If you loved the movie (and who wouldn’t with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore) than be sure to check out the local production of this musical comedy! Evening and matinee shows are available – click here for ticket information.
Pamper yourself this weekend as ELLORA celebrates her first weekend entirely at the Interlaken property! Pilates classes have been running for about a month now, and now services will be fully up and running over July 4th weekend! For any service – massages, manicures, facials, and hand and foot facials – you will receive a complimentary ELLORA tote bag. Services are by appointment, so be sure to call 860-435-1305 or ext. 181 from your Interlaken Guestroom phone to make arranagements. Her retail shop is also open Monday through Friday from 11am to 5pm in the Atrium building – so you can also bring home some luscious lotions and amazing scents to continue the pampering!
Check tomorrow for some more fun July activities happening in our area!
Yes, that’s right! The group coordinator of the conference being held at the Interlaken right now wanted to have an activity to go along with the bonfire (love those s’mores!) at the lakefront last night since the conference attendees would be sitting all afternoon for the meeting. Kristy Barto, our Corporate Sales Manager, offered Glow-in-the-dark Volleyball! Our staff set up the typical volleyball layout but laid the boundaries of the court with Glow Sticks and hung Glow Sticks from the top of the net so they could see it…and they used a glow-in-the-dark volleyball instead of the regular one. Certainly an energizing and fun activity, and certainly something to look forward to after a long afternoon of meetings!
This is a lucky group, as even this afternoon the coordinator has built a few hours of free time into their schedule so the team can take advantage of the lakefront activities and really enjoy the property. I just saw Kristy snapping some photos as they were swimming in the pool and boating on the lake. It’s a beautiful afternoon here in Lakeville CT!
Tonight they head over to the Executive Lounge and have planned their own “Game Night” using the table games that we already have. We’ll provide a self serve beer & wine bar and evening snacks and they get to socialize and continue building comraderie in a casual setting. Who would have thought a conference could be so much fun! Contact Kristy Barto at email@example.com to see what fun things she can plan for your group!
ELLORA Spa, Sanctuary & Pilates is almost complete with their move onto the Interlaken property from their studio over on Brook Street, Lakeville, CT. The Pilates segment of ELLORA have made their new home over in our Countryside building, the Tudor style house adjacent to the Interlaken’s main building. Pilates classes are currently offered Mondays and Wednesdays at 6pm and Saturdays at 8:30am. These are group classes are for all levels and are available to Interlaken Guests. The cost is $12 for a one hour session. The Instructor, Rachel Hay, is certified by the Pilates Institute of America and was kind enough to give me a private session so I could see what Pilates is all about! I have done Pilates tapes before and I do have a small Pilates Performer at home, so I felt like I knew what I was doing – but Rachel proved me wrong! I have never been personally instructed like this, so to have her tell me to relax my shoulders, lift my rib cage, keep the spine against the mat – well, it truly challenged me to think about my body and how it was all working together. It all stems from the inner core, strengthening and lengthening. In my mind I knew what she was saying, but to make my body do it was a different story. Rachel is also available for private lessons, and will be adding more classes to the schedule in the near future. I encourage you to try one of her classes to see what I am talking about – I am sure you will walk away with a better posture after just one hour with Rachel!
For more information, call Rachel at 518-789-4140.
Vacationing with your Pup!
If you’ve been to the Interlaken before, then you know we absolutely love meeting your dog, petting them and giving them treats. (we apologize if we give them more attention than we give to you!)
We also love to make sure they sleep well so we provide posh doggie beds for them to get a good night’s rest so they are energized and ready to go the next morning! (you know that as soon as you even move your pinky toe your dog is at your bedside waiting to greet you!) We also have beautiful grounds for walking your dog and a deep lake that your dog can swim in (we don’t have doggie beach towels, so be sure to bring one to wipe him off with!). You can also order a “to go” dinner from Morgan’s and eat outside with your pet (by the lake is the perfect spot ). Accommodations for pets are in our Woodside building – all rooms have a Queen bed and a pull-out sofa sleeper, a microwave and a fridge (to keep your dog treats in if necessary!) It’s clear we provide everything that is needed to make your pet comfortable and happy to be on vacation – so please provide your Dog with what they want the most – which is being with YOU. That is all your pet lives for and every dog owner in the world knows that.
PLEASE do not leave your pet alone in your Guestroom!
You may know how they act at home when you are not there, but when they are in a strange place no one can predict their behavior. What most dogs decide to do when they are left alone is to call out for you – which means BARKING and lots of it. This obviously disturbs other Guests from enjoying the peacefulness of the Interlaken. If your vacation plans are too involved to include your dog with you, then perhaps your best bet is to find a family member to take care of him or book a kennel at home. If your plans truly are to enjoy every moment with him, then give us a call and let’s get started on your doggie vacation!
