Wedding nostalgia

OK, I admit, I am feeling it now.  Since seeing Annika and Luke, the bride and groom from 2007 that was just here renewing their vows, I’ve become quite nostalgic with the weddings that I did plan back at that time.  I took photos at most of the weddings from then, and plan to post them over the next few weeks.  A few things have changed – such as our new reception chairs, more greenery and flowers around the pavilion, a new hot tub in our Honeymoon Suite, a crosswalk to get your Guests safely over to Route 112 to the beautiful lakefront ceremony site – and some things haven’t changed, which in  my book is a good thing!  If you are like me, and just love looking at wedding photos from even people you don’t know, be sure to check back in with me over these next few weeks to see some amazing wedding photos at Interlaken!  Here are some from Annika and Luke’s special day in August 2007 – they had a picture perfect day, just like today is in Lakeville, CT!

P.S. You know who to contact if you are looking for a wedding venue, right?  Brandon Scimeca – email weddings@interlakeninn.com!

A Romantic Renewal

Just three short years ago Annika & Luke said their vows at the Interlaken lakefront, and now just three short years later they are here today, recreating that special moment by renewing their vows.  It is a gorgeous day today, just like their wedding day was in 2007.  I had the privilege of planning their wedding with them – their choice of yellow daisies, so happy and fun, and their amazing first dance (Annika is a professional pilobolus dancer) will always stand out in my mind when I think of their wedding day!  They will be dining in Morgan’s restaurant this evening – our Chefs will be preparing exactly what they had on their wedding day!

Congratulations Annika and Luke!

Gorgeous weekend at Interlaken!

On perfect days like yesterday and today, it’s just so easy to wander the property and take photos of what is happening.  The big beautiful sun, bright blue sky, trees swaying in the breeze, flowers in bloom, low humidity!  All good things – especially when combined with picnic tables for picnicking, adirondack chairs for reading, the pool for swimming, the Sunnyside lawn for dog walking, the lake for boating.  Lets round out this perfect weekend with a celebration of marriage!  A Sunday afternoon wedding – love it!  The wedding pavilion is ready to go!  And yes, if you think the Lilys in these photos are fragrant – you are 100% correct!

Family Fun Weekend Coming Up Soon!

Summer is ticking away, but there is still time left to plan that weekend getaway with your family!  Next weekend – August 14th and August 15th – seems like the perfect time as there are so many family based events happening in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut!  In addition to the usual property amenities we have available for families (swimming in the outdoor heated pool and the lake,  canoes and kayaks, tennis, the game room) and the every day local fun such as bicycling on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, miniature golf in Canaan, local movie theaters, farm markets, there are special events happening next weekend that you should consider:

  • Sharon Audubon Festival – Saturday 8/14 and Sunday 8/15 9:30am to 5:30pm.  Interlaken is happy to be a “wood thrush” sponsor for this annual event in Sharon, CT, just 10 minutes from the Interlaken property.  Many events are scheduled each day, with highlights being an Animal Show at 1pm on Saturday, a falconry demo at 3:30pm, and then Sunday Atka the Wolf @ 1pm and then music and comedy with Nancy Tucker @ 3:30pm.  Adults are $7 and kids are $5.  Click here for more information!
  • Family Festival at Music Mountain – Saturday 8/14 from 11am to 4pm.  Enjoy the afternoon with stilt dancers, mimes, , bagpiper, all kinds of music – concession is provided or bring your own picnic!  Free admission, and 10 minutes from the Interlaken property.  Click here for more information!
  • OKLAHOMA!  Everyone has heard of this classical musical, and it’s playing just 10 minutes from the Interlaken property at Tri-Arts Playhouse in Sharon, CT.  Bring your family to see this award winning musical – you will be amazed at the shows the Tri-Arts theater can produce, with many Northwest Connecticut residents taking part in it!  Friday, August 13th and Saturday, August 14th at 8pm and Sunday, August 15th at 5pm.  Click here for tickets and more information!
  • Salisbury Bank’s Millerton community day on Saturday, August 14th from 9am to 1pm.  In addition to “shredding it” (click here for more details on that!) there will be free food, face painting, live WQQQ broadcast, fun and entertainment for all!  Just 5 minutes away in Millerton, NY.

Make reservations for your family fun weekend today – click here to do so!

Goodbye, Memaw!

The day has finally come where Memaw’s long-term stay at the Interlaken has come to an end! She arrived at the end of June and stayed with us for 6 weeks. Why would someone stay at the Interlaken for 6 weeks you might ask? Local business purposes, needing a place to stay while their home being built in the area is complete, writing a book, a film crew producing in the area – many reasons why. In Memaw’s case, she was here to bring her grandson to a local day camp in Amenia, NY. Monday through Friday, Memaw would get up, get her grandson to camp bright and early, and then return to the Inn until it was time to pick him up for the day. Memaw had company with her though – her “granddog” Crystal. I would visit Memaw often and her and Crystal would be just relaxing and reading, or walking the property, but always meeting new friends! Memaw plans to keep in touch with some Guests she met this summer, and Crystal became the Mascot of Woodside, welcoming other dogs, one being the Standard Poodle Fritz. Woodside was the perfect pet friendly accommodation for Memaw since she did have Crystal with her – the fridge and microwave came in handy for her as well! Memaw’s husband came to visit her as well, all the way from Texas, and they explored the Northwest part of Connecticut together, something they’d never done before. Whatever your reason is to stay with us long term, give us a call at 1-800-222-2909 so we can make the arrangements.

As for Memaw – thank you for choosing to stay with us, goodbye, keep in touch, and we will all miss YOU!
