July Wedding Weekend
A perfect day for anything and everything outdoors in New England today, but particularly wonderful for an outdoor wedding event! We've got one happening here at Interlaken for 215 Guests, and naturally I was out in the lovely air snapping some photos - lucky me, and lucky them for such beautiful weather! Congratulations Lindsay and Michael!
Frankie's vacation at Interlaken
Hello Blog Readers,
My name is Frankie and I stayed at the Interlaken this past week. Just so you have a furry face with a name, here I am with my loyal owner, getting ready to go inside the pet friendly room in the Sunnyside building.
I really enjoyed myself at the Interlaken and miss all the very nice people (including the children I saw) who showered such love and affection on me. I felt like a King! The doggie bed and blanket that were in my room upon my arrival were very cozy, and the treats that the staff gave me were so yummy. Although there were many reasons my owners chose to stay at Interlaken, I overheard them saying that they mainly chose Interlaken because of the accommodations that were available to me. They really love me.
The Interlaken’s property is pretty big, and we seemed to wander around everywhere. They have cool metal animals all around the property. Of course I liked the pouncing dog in the front of the main building the best. We also took a walk down to the lakefront, and although I just got my paws wet, the water was refreshing and kept me cool. I felt so relaxed being at Interlaken. I think my owners liked it too as I heard them say they had a great time and would return if they had the chance. Paws up to Interlaken!
Harlem Valley Rail Ride 2012
The signs are everywhere in the Northwest Corner, reminding bikers that Sunday, July 22nd is the day to cycle up to 100 miles with lots of support along the way! I write often about the beautiful Harlem Valley Rail Trail and suggest to Interlaken Guests to bring their bikes (or rent one nearby) and take advantage of the miles of the car-less trail that weaves through the valleys of Dutchess and Columbia Counties in New York. The views, the fresh air, nature - it's a lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon in the great outdoors! This Sunday, however, biking is taken to the next level! With routes that include 25 miles up to 100 miles, you'll be supported with both marshalls keeping a watchful eye on you and rest areas that include nutritional energy to keep you pedaling through the amazing routes in Dutchess County. All of the fun starts in Millerton, NY (another place we recommend our Guests visit) and ends there as well with a festival and a dip in the town pool. Click here for more details on this upcoming active endeavor!
P.S. Stay with us Sunday night after your day of biking and we'll upgrade you complimentary to one of our main building king bedded rooms for a very comfortable night's sleep! If you are so invigorated on Monday, check out these routes for some more cycling fun!
Soap Q & A
Q: How many bars of soap were created from the 55lbs of soap collected from Interlaken Guestrooms and sent to Clean the World for the first half of 2012?
This means 293 bars of soap will be sent to children and families worldwide.
Thank you, Interlaken Guests, for staying with us, and thank you, Clean the World, for recycling this soap to help those in need. This is definitely a win-win for all!
What is happening in Interlaken's backyard this lovely evening in July?
Wait, let's get a closer look....
Ahh, a Backyard BBQ! What a perfect night to be enjoying a feast outside, complete with all the fixins'!
Salmon steaks, hot dogs, grilled hamburgers, barbecued chicken, relish bar, baked idaho potato bar with condiments, tossed salad of baby greens in vinaigrette, old-fashioned baked beans with bacon, onion and molasses, corn on the cob and you got it, strawberry shortcake for dessert. YUM!
Many of our family reunions celebrate their last evening with us by having a traditional BBQ held right here on our patio area and into the courtyard. This one is for about 30 people and they couldn't have asked for a better summer night to have it. We have many dining options for families all of sizes - click here to find out more details about having your family reunion here at Interlaken. Enjoy!
Outdoor dining. If the weather is warm and cozy or your drink is cold enough to beat any heat, or you are just tired of air conditioning, then please request to dine on our Penthouse Rooftop. Cocktails for two, creative appetizers, a full course dinner - whatever your fancy is we'll see to it you are at the top of the Interlaken!

June's Top Performers
Drumroll please.... and the winner of the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix GT held today at Lime Rock Park is...Bergmeister/Long, Porsche 911 GT3 RSR. Congrats also to the Vette fans (Geoff, too bad you weren't watching in person) who came in second and third. I got thinking, if Interlaken had a race, who would win? Let me share with you June's Top Performers!
Guestroom: Room 140! A Main Building King Bedded Room that faces the pool and is decorated like no other on property. Recently renovated in honor of a very special Guest that stayed at Interlaken while visiting Lime Rock Park.
Here's the view from Room 140's screened-in porch:
Guestroom runner ups are as follows:
Room 118 (a first floor room with two queens, same view as above), Room 161 (a Victorian-styled king room in our Sunnyside building), Room 150 (the winner in the pet friendly room category - a king bedded room also in the Sunnyside building) and Suite 209 with adjoining Room 210. *Honorable mention to Room 302 - a king bedded room in the Countryside building.
Onto the winners in Morgan's restaurant!
In a category all its own: Morgan's Burger! Local Barlow Farm Grass-fed burger with our homemade French Fries, choice of Caramelized Onions, Bacon, Grafton Cheddar, Berkshire Blue Cheese or Swiss.
Entrees: Salmon! Grilled Wild Coho Salmon, Marinated Leeks and English Cucumbers, Yogurt Sauce. I can attest to its yummiest personally.
I'd say come and try it but it's already been changed (we update quite often, as you know) on the latest menu to Grilled Wild King Salmon, Roasted Local Summer Squash, Pistachio Puree, Yogurt Sauce. Sounds just as yummy as the winner!
Runner-ups: Roasted Organic Chicken with Farmer Church's Local Spinach, Roasted Garlic-Thyme Jus and Grilled Grass-fed NY Strip with House Worcestershire, Horseradish, Grilled Asparagus. *Honorable mention: Homemade Asparagus Ravioli.
All in a day's work
I was chatting with a Guest who is coming to visit her 12 year old son who is at a local camp this summer near Interlaken. After taking her reservation for next weekend, she wanted some ideas of what they could do for fun for the weekend. So on and on I went with all the details and towards the end of the conversation she said "Well, I'd better get going as I have to get ready to go out" and I said "And I better get back to work". OK, so after I said that I had to laugh - "better get back to work"? I was working! That is how fun my job can be, lucky me.
So where am I going with this? Oh yes, the FUN! I am not going to list an amusement park (although they are fun). When you stay at Interlaken with your family, it's all about the great outdoors, both right at the Interlaken and in the surrounding countryside. Canoeing or kayaking on the lake, biking the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, hiking the Appalachian Trail, Horseback riding, picnicking near a waterfall (or at our lakeside), picking blueberries, flying through the trees at Catamount's Adventure Park, golfing at Hotchkiss Golf Course, visiting local Farm Markets (such as Freund's Farm), swimming in the lake, playing tennis - the list goes on. What's my favorite fun thing to do? (I bet you are all so surprised....)
