Mixing things up at Interlaken!
So you've had a long day and you just ordered a cocktail, your favorite one. It comes out to you, complete with a salted rim, a wedge of lime and a cute sipping straw. The perfect blend of Tequila, triple sec and lime juice. It tastes perfect. How do they get it to taste so perfect? I've never seen a bartender make a cocktail using a measuring cup, which is what I would need in order to make the perfectly balanced Margarita. They give a splash of this and a splash of that and Voila! Maybe taking the Mixology program at Interlaken will help in appreciating our favorite drink!
Mixology is one of our newest team building activities offered here at Interlaken, and it's a fun hour filled with Brandy, Rum, Vodka and some not-so-expected ingredients. Name your bar, create your cocktail using standard and exotic ingredients, name your cocktail, taste your cocktail - then let the Judge decide!
Summer is not over yet!
I love happy Guests, and I love when happy Guests share happy comments like this with us:
"We can't say enough about Interlaken. We love everything about your Inn!"
I do love it a bit more, though, when they include great photos of their time spent with us!
This family was able to enjoy fun outdoor time at both of our lakefronts since they rented our Lakeside Cottage, shown below.
The Lakeside Cottage is the only accommodation on property that gives you access to the "back" lake. This means you have your very own private lake frontage on Lake Wononpakook, and this photo below taken from the screened-in porch shows you just how close you are to the water. Every Guest that stays their loves the seclusion this cabin provides. The cottage does have wi-fi, no worries!
The cottage has one King bedroom, a living area with a pull-out sofa, a kitchen with dining table, and a full bath. It also has a fire pit right at the shore, perfect for an evening campfire with s'mores. (look close, the fire is lit!)
Thanks so much, J, for sharing photos of your last visit of summer to Interlaken!
Maybe your Summer got away without a last minute getaway, but don't let Fall do the same! Believe it or not, there are a few dates when the Lakeside Cottage is available. Give us a call at 1-800-222-2909 to plan your Fall Foliage visit to Interlaken!
Harney Fest 2014
I've been waiting for this date to come all summer:
And two weeks ago it did, and I was fortunate enough to sneak away from work for a couple of hours to join in on the fun. There was live music, a large tent with huge savings on their tea and tea pots (I stocked up), t-shirts, books, and many photos of John Harney and his family and the history of their tea empire. The one fun I wasn't expecting was taking a factory tour. Oh my. I'll share with you what I saw, but you also have to experience the smell.
Open any bag or sachet or tin of Harney's tea and inhale. This is exactly what the entire factory smelled like. It was heavenly.
It was also huge. And it should be: you need a lot of space for all of that tea that is shipped worldwide.
Our tour guide was fabulous! Funny and knowledgeable. I wish I could remember everything I he told us about the art of tea making. You will just have to take the tour yourself!
The wrappers before they are wrappers!
One of the main tea boxing machines.
And they come out just like that...
There is a separate machine that prepares the iced tea bags.
Boxes of my favorite - Iced Green with Coconut.
There was tea everywhere. I wanted to put my head in this box, add hot water, a drop of milk, and sip away. Fortunately, the tour did end with a tea tasting hosted by Michael Harney, so I did get my tea fix afterall.
I'd say the time spent at the Harney Fest was almost a perfect one, but there was one thing that was missing, and that was the Master Blender for 30 years himself, John Harney. He was definitely there in spirit.
I am already looking forward to Harney Fest 2015!
Raft Building at Interlaken
What can one build with the following:
One can build a raft, of course, but its way more fun for more than one to work together to make that raft and float out onto the waters of Lake Wononscopomuc!
Interlaken offers many Team Building programs for both corporate and retreat groups, and even for families like this one. Families are divided into separate teams and their task is to visit our "Island Shop" and purchase the right items that will allow them to build a raft that will hold 2 team members to row out to the Interlaken dock and back. Sounds easy, and certainly sounds fun, doesn't it? Let the following pictures show you how it's done:
The Captain and First Mate come back from the shop sharing what they purchased.
The team starts to assemble the perfect flotation device.
A ship wouldn't be complete without a team flag.
On your mark, get set, go!
The race begins on the deepest lake in Connecticut.
The raft will go faster and stay afloat only if there is huge clapping and cheering from the team members on dry land!
The winners! Well, not quite. There's one more activity that decides the ultimate champions:
A three legged race!
The waters of Lake Wononscopomuc will start to cool down and put the raft building on hold until next season, but no worries, this is just one of many Team Building Activities offered here at Interlaken. Contact me and I can tell you more!
