Lakeside Vlog - Take 1
So here is my first attempt to post a VLOG on the Lakeside BLOG! Don't get me wrong, I love to write and I love to share photos, but really, after over 4 years of this let me try something a bit different! You could probably use a change too. I think you'll get a better feel for the property through video, and I also think you will get a good laugh, so that's worth it in itself.
So here's my first take. I already critiqued it: my head was cut off in the beginning, we showed too much road instead of focusing up on the trees, I jumped from side to side too much, I said a few things that didn't make sense and I wish I said more things (like this is where our wedding couples get married) and why did we park the Interlaken truck right there?! So now that we've got that out of the way, let's take a look!
Salisbury's Fall Festival is coming!
Another reason to come to Lakeville this upcoming Columbus Day Weekend!
You don't want to miss the 59th Annual Fall Festival in Salisbury and Lakeville this year. The weather for the weekend looks dry and with typical Fall temperatures, which, let's admit, is what we want this time of year. Pack your coziest sweater and come visit! We still have some rooms available this weekend so be sure to give us a call or make your Reservations on our website.
I am simply going to "cut and paste" from the Fall Festival website so you can read about all the special activities happening this weekend:
- Indulge in a hearty breakfast of freshly-made blueberry pancakes, then wander Main Street for attic treasures, global crafts, and previously-loved books and jewelry in the villages’ churches.
- Admire the beautiful quilt show.
- Purchase delicious homemade baked goods and learn how to make bread.
- Enjoy hot dogs, Greek pastries, baked potatoes with toppings, chili and cornbread, mac 'n cheese, and Central American dishes. Look for artisans selling hand-made jewelry, art, and crafts.
- Visit the special art exhibit and listen to live music by the Salisbury Band and The Joint Chiefs.
- Cast your vote in the Scarecrow Contest.
- Attend the Salisbury Forum and the Bluegrass concert.
- Bring the kids! They'll enjoy magic shows, hay rides, vintage car rides, face painting, games, crafts.
- End the weekend at the Beer-Tasting Festival up at the ski jumps with gorgeous autumn views of the Litchfield Hills and Berkshire Mountains.
- We hope you'll also visit the two villages' intriguing stores, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. Many will be offering sidewalk sales throughout the Festival!
Be sure to check out Interlaken's entry in the Scarecrow contest!

Welcome Hotchkiss Class of 1949!
What were you doing back in 1949?
Some of the Guests arriving here on this beautiful Fall weekend in Lakeville were graduating from this prestigious college preparatory boarding school that year, and now, 55 years later, they are back and reminiscing with old classmates and looking ahead to the future of the Hotchkiss School.
Interlaken has been welcoming Hotchkiss families since 1891, the year when both Hotchkiss and Interlaken (the Sunnyside building) were founded. (anyone care to share what they were doing back in 1891?) We are located right next door to each other so on some evenings in the Fall you can hear the Football games in the distance.
In the warmer months, we share the same lakefront. Here is the Hotchkiss Sailing Team practicing on the deepest lake in Connecticut.
All year round, we deliver Morgan's burgers-to-go to the students and faculty.
We are closely connected with Hotchkiss. We enjoy meeting meeting the prospective students and parents on revisit days, and anticipate a four year relationship with them upon their acceptance. We welcome families for Hotchkiss Parent's Weekend (coming up soon!) and Hotchkiss Graduation. We welcome back many alumni groups each year, as well as school sport teams looking to compete with Hotchkiss.
Hotchkiss is quite a notable boarding school, and has graduated many notable figures! Click here to see the list of Hotchkiss notable alumni.
"Not your Average Weekend"
This blog is to introduce you three things: Susie & Mo, the “Not your Average Mom.com” blog and the “Not your Average Weekend” at Interlaken.
On September 2nd I met two very interesting and very fun women, Susie & Mo.
They were looking for a property in Connecticut to host a women’s retreat in February 2015. They found Interlaken on the web (where else is there?) and decided to come for a visit. They really liked what they saw at Interlaken – the Guestrooms, the meeting spaces for activities and the overall feel of the property and have decided to hold their event here the weekend of February 27th and 28th, 2015. Ya-hoo!
Now, this is where the “Not your Average Mom.com” blog comes in. The blog has over 20,000 readers all over the world and if you click into it and start to read you will see why. Don’t let the “Mom” part fool you and think that if you aren’t a Mom it won’t apply. If you are a woman you will understand and if you are a man you will also understand. Susie’s purpose of the blog is to “maintain my sanity by looking for the humor in, well, everything” and writes about “the stuff that some people don’t want to talk about.” She certainly talks about it all right! Be sure to check it out. Her blog is #1 at "TopMommyBlogs.com" for a reason!
Once you begin reading her blog and fall in love with it, you may just decide that the weekend she is planning for in February 2015 at the Interlaken is one you’d like to be a part of. In addition to meeting her, you will meet up to 100 other women that are looking for a little getaway from their daily life that will include entertainment, yoga, self defense, great food and drink, relaxation, and much more FUN. The details and posts about the Interlaken will be upcoming on Susie’s blog so be sure to check there daily, but here are some links to posts already written:
Call us anytime to make your reservations! Simply tell us you’d like to come for the “Not your Average Weekend” in February and we’ll take it from there.
We are all looking forward to hosting this probably crazy event next year!
