I am just happy to get away!

I am going away for a couple of days with my family, and I am so excited.  It’s “interesting” for us to go away to other hotels because we are always comparing the hotel and its services we are staying at with the Interlaken.  Will there be enough towels at the pool area?  When I get to their pool, and there are no more towels, I will simply ask for more.  I don’t care – I am just happy to get away with my family!  If the breakfast buffet is low on eggs, I will tell the server, or skip them and avoid the risk of salmonella.  I don’t care – I am just happy to get away with  my family!  What if the front desk person doesn’t smile at me upon arrival?  I will just assume that they are having a bad moment, or maybe I forgot to smile at them first?  I don’t care – I am just happy to get away with my family!  What if the room is smaller than I thought?  If it’s clean, and the basics are covered, then I don’t care – I am just happy to get away with my family!  What if the air conditioner is too loud?  I will be thankful it is still keeping my room cool so I can sleep comfortably in the warm weather – because I am just happy to get away with my family!

Maybe people are just too stressed in their daily lives to just be happy to get away with their family!

Come stay at the Interlaken and relax with your family – take a dip in the pool, take a canoe out on the lake, arrange for a one hour massage, go for a hike on the Appalachian Trail, ride a bike on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail, have an amazing dinner in Morgan’s, leisurely, while listening to Scott Heth on piano, read a book in an Adirondack chair in our courtyard, admire the beautiful landscaping from Salisbury Garden Center.  Sleep late, or get up early and go for a walk!  Do whatever you want – just be happy to get away with your family!

June brides – take a look!

Brandon just took a site tour last weekend for a couple that was interested in June of next year.  Just a few days ago, the deposit check was received and the planning begins!  June is a perfect month for an outdoor wedding – daytime temperatures average about 70 degrees in Lakeville, CT, with nice cool evenings.  The landscaping is lush and all of the annuals are planted.  Everyone is happy as the school year is ending and summer is right around the corner!

Here are some photos of a June wedding held here a couple of years ago.

A Southern-style wedding at a New England Resort

My Saturday ritual on a day there’s a wedding at Interlaken:  I grab my camera and head out to take pictures of the pavilion all set and ready to go.  You may think “it’s the same old thing” as centerpieces are centerpieces, and cakes are cakes, but that is not so!  There are so many different flowers that can be arranged in so many unique ways, and cakes that are round, square, tall, short, with flowers, without flowers, well, you get my point!  I am always anxious to see how the couple has taken our neutral outdoor setting and made it their own for the evening!  It seems like each time there is just something I haven’t seen before – and today was no exception.  Bowls of peaches.  Yup, as simple as that, but just enough for me to say “how cute” and of course – what’s the significance of peaches?  Read on to find out what Brandon Scimeca, Food & Beverage Director and Wedding Coordinator, had to say about this!

The groom is from Alabama, so they wanted a Northern wedding location with a Southern feel.  Peaches are perfect!  They also worked with Brandon to incorporate some Southern dishes into the menu.  Southern favorites such as pimento and cheese, wild salmon with green tomato peach relish, shrimp and grits, slow roasted fresh leg of pork, and buttermilk biscuits were Southern favorites chosen for the evening.   In addition to the cake, chocolate chip cookies,  brownies and seven layer bars were all served, and were all family recipes.

In case you didn’t know, Brandon loves to customize menus to someone’s heritage or background, or even just personal family favorites.  Family recipes can also be incorporated into the menus to make the wedding more personal and unique.  Can you imagine sharing your favorite Aunt’s recipe at your wedding with all of your family and friends?  Brandon can pretty much do anything you want, so be sure to contact him to start planning your personalized wedding today!

Good Morning Wedding Breakfast Guests

It’s a beautiful morning here at the Interlaken in Lakeville, CT, and the perfect morning to host a private breakfast out on our patio!  The couple getting married today have started the festivities of their celebration on the early side by gathering their family and friends for a private breakfast buffet our on our patio.  Seating is available both on the patio as well as outside at picnic tables on the lawn.  Pictures of the bride and groom, photos of their lives before they met and after they found each other are on display – certainly something for their Guests to check and talk about over breakfast!  I snapped some photos before everyone arrived, and here they are!

Wedding Celebrations at Interlaken

Here are some more photos from an August wedding last summer at Interlaken.  There wasn’t a bright blue sky that day, but as you can see from the photos, it will still a perfect day for Elissa and Larry.  Happy One Year Anniversary!

Wedding Week

A week of wedding photos on my blog, that is -  not a week long wedding!  Although, Interlaken does wedding weekends - why couldn’t one do a wedding week?  Now that would be fun!  Anyway, I’ve been having so much fun looking back at the weddings I planned a few years back, remembering the couples, their families, the unique details.  Here’s another wedding that happened at the end of August 2007 – the florist was amazing, the rich colors the bride chose made such a statement against the white linens  - and check out the evening shot of the pavilion!  So neat.

Congratulations Shawn & Alex!

For those of you who have visited Interlaken’s restaurant Morgan’s, you may have met Alex and Shawn.  Previously greeting you during breakfast hours, Alex has recently moved to evenings serving dinner in Morgan’s.  You may not  actually see Shawn, but you meet him as soon as your dinner arrives as he is the Chef in the kitchen who prepares the amazing creative dishes you receive.  Shawn and Alex have been with us for about 3 years now, and just got married this past Saturday (yes, that perfect Saturday to have a wedding!).  Alex looked so beautiful, Shawn so handsome – and both so happy together!  It was a perfect afternoon as their family and many Interlaken friends shared in their celebration!  While visiting Interlaken, be sure to make dinner reservations so you can say hello to Alex and experience one of the many creative and delicious dishes her husband prepares!

Wedding nostalgia

OK, I admit, I am feeling it now.  Since seeing Annika and Luke, the bride and groom from 2007 that was just here renewing their vows, I’ve become quite nostalgic with the weddings that I did plan back at that time.  I took photos at most of the weddings from then, and plan to post them over the next few weeks.  A few things have changed – such as our new reception chairs, more greenery and flowers around the pavilion, a new hot tub in our Honeymoon Suite, a crosswalk to get your Guests safely over to Route 112 to the beautiful lakefront ceremony site – and some things haven’t changed, which in  my book is a good thing!  If you are like me, and just love looking at wedding photos from even people you don’t know, be sure to check back in with me over these next few weeks to see some amazing wedding photos at Interlaken!  Here are some from Annika and Luke’s special day in August 2007 – they had a picture perfect day, just like today is in Lakeville, CT!

P.S. You know who to contact if you are looking for a wedding venue, right?  Brandon Scimeca – email weddings@interlakeninn.com!

A Romantic Renewal

Just three short years ago Annika & Luke said their vows at the Interlaken lakefront, and now just three short years later they are here today, recreating that special moment by renewing their vows.  It is a gorgeous day today, just like their wedding day was in 2007.  I had the privilege of planning their wedding with them – their choice of yellow daisies, so happy and fun, and their amazing first dance (Annika is a professional pilobolus dancer) will always stand out in my mind when I think of their wedding day!  They will be dining in Morgan’s restaurant this evening – our Chefs will be preparing exactly what they had on their wedding day!

Congratulations Annika and Luke!

Gorgeous weekend at Interlaken!

On perfect days like yesterday and today, it’s just so easy to wander the property and take photos of what is happening.  The big beautiful sun, bright blue sky, trees swaying in the breeze, flowers in bloom, low humidity!  All good things – especially when combined with picnic tables for picnicking, adirondack chairs for reading, the pool for swimming, the Sunnyside lawn for dog walking, the lake for boating.  Lets round out this perfect weekend with a celebration of marriage!  A Sunday afternoon wedding – love it!  The wedding pavilion is ready to go!  And yes, if you think the Lilys in these photos are fragrant – you are 100% correct!
