Morgan's on Instagram
This is what Ruby Beet and Coconut soup looks like.
While many local restaurants are serving the typical butternut squash (and there is nothing wrong with that!), here at Morgan's Restaurant we are offering this bright and creative soup to start your evening meal. It's delicious along with our cottage dill rolls.
A Private Party
Normally every weekend we have a combination of Track visitors, Wedding Guests, School parents, Romantic Couples, Retreat Participants, and Families. This weekend, however, "everybody knows your name". A property-wide wedding is taking place and the festivities began early Friday and will go right until Noon on Sunday.
Friday began with canoeing on the back lake to the Mary Peters Memorial Park. A Food Truck arrived for the Rehearsal dinner with brick oven pizzas (and more) for all Guests to enjoy while the air was filled with jazz music. A bonfire with dark and milk chocolate for s'mores (complimented with Octoberfest) by the lakefront concluded the first day of their special weekend.
Today arrives and the sky is blue, the temperature is comfortable and the colors at the lake are perfect for their lakeside ceremony. This time of year is just so beautiful.
Although you can take a leisurely walk to the ceremony site, this adorable limo trolley was available for all Guests to enjoy.
The Bride is planning to arrive at the ceremony in this Old Time Checker Cab (which was in the movie "When Harry Met Sally" among many others).
Let the party begin under the wedding pavilion! There's a photo booth inside to capture every moment.
Truly where "Everybody knows your name" - first names only that is!
Set for 190 Guests, our staff was ready to provide each Guest with a Kale Salad with Lemon Olive Oil Dressing and Zucchini Carpaccio, Pinenuts, Lemon Oil & Basil as the first courses. Guest could then choose either Black Cod with Soy Butter Sauce & Green Onion and Sesame Seed Garnish, Filet Grass Fed Beef with Mushrooms & Thyme, Portobello Mushroom stuffed with Quinoa, Spinach, Pinenuts & Red Pepper Sauce or Chickpea Stew with Red Peppes, Zucchini, Coconut Milk, Brown Rice and Harissa. All to be accompanied by root vegetables and green beans with lemon zest and roasted garlic.
In addition to this amazing cake above, this table below will soon become a pie bar. Yes, many fresh pies all baked by Freund's Farm Market and Bakery. Every flavor imaginable is represented and available ala mode with fresh whipped cream and toppings as well. As if this isn't enough, there will be dark chocolate covered strawberries and a cookie tray at each table.
Flowers by Country Gardeners.
The party will continue in Morgan's with late night snacks such as vegetarian tacos and guacamole and chips, and plenty of Corona.
The special weekend will be concluded with a Sunday Brunch for all Guests with a bagel bar, an oatmeal bar, New York bagels, an omelet station, hashbrowns and pancakes.

Read my chocolate lips:
Chocolate Lover's Rejoice! We've discovered a sweet spot less than 30 minutes away that is a "must see" if you are a chocolate lover.
Thorncrest Farm & Milk House in Goshen, CT has shared with us their amazingly delicious and fresh chocolate creations - and we are all in love. (my favorite are their sea salt caramels) You can taste the freshness of their chocolates and this is why: "The Magic is in our Milk":
The foundation for Milk House Chocolates is our signature milk...
We harvest our hay and pasture our cows. This ensures they are fed the finest sweetest hay and natural feeds; from this they produce this pure signature milk Milk House Chocolates brings you artisanal chocolates made in small batches one at a time with our fresh milk, cream and butter. Only all natural flavors such as fresh orchard frutis, garden herbs and honey are blended with the very best cocoa beans on earth to create these pralines and truffles. This is an amazing farmer to farmer connection.
I do indulge in chocolate often and could truly taste the difference in Milk House. Try it yourself.
The phones at Interlaken are busy ringing and the question we are asked the most is "How are the colors right now?"
"Gorgeous" I say.
It has been an amazing fall season in New England. Sunny days and warm temperatures.
Even though the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) says we are on the last day of the Peak Season in this area, I say we still have alot of more colorful beauty to see in the next couple of weeks. There is still much green tucked in amongst the bright displays of yellow, reds, and oranges. It's really quite stunning and worth the drive to see us and surround yourself in this amazing beauty. We've got some great mid-week packages to take advantage of - the Fall Foliage Escape Package is certainly an appropriate choice! Come see us before Autumn "leaves" us in 2013!
What a Mix-up
As we were busy "Intermingling" at 5pm last night, the sun over Lake Wononscopomuc was busy preparing for this beautiful sunset.
Breathtaking, isn't it? Thanks for snapping this, Kristy!
So what's the Mix-up? It's you, our Guests, of course! We have been meeting so many different Guests every week for over 4 months now, and it never gets old. Everyone has an interesting story, regardless of their reason for staying with us. I talked with a nice lady who was on her second week of a three week stay working for the FDIC. This job sends her many places across the country all year long, but she was happy to be in this colorful area this time of year. We look forward to her return on Monday! We also had a couple on a Romantic Getaway celebrating their two year anniversary with us, their first time leaving their 8 month old son. Of course I recommended taking a canoe ride around the lake as well as stroll hand-in-hand at the Beaver Pond Trail. And yes, they both had an apple cider cocktail in their hand to both celebrate as well as to cope without him! The Track guys - playing on the skid pad - there is always a group of guys (an occasional lady too though) that spent the day at the Lime Rock Track and always the response is "We had a great day". Another woman was on a "Road Trip" traveling all the way from Ohio to Rhode Island to visit friends and found us along her way home. She wsa also so impressed with the fall foliage in this area (did you know the Litchfield Hills were named by National Geographic Traveler as one of the most scenic driving destinations in the country?). Another lady was excited to have her husband spend the day at Lime Rock Park so she could explore the lovely town of Millerton (and loving Harney and Sons Pomegranate Orange Iced Tea) for some major antique shopping. Another young man was here visiting Hotchkiss School (we are all ready for Parent's Weekend and can't wait to welcome everyone) and was totally impressed with its college campus-like beauty. Along with festive Apple Cider Cocktails, our fresh cottage dill rolls (that we serve in our restaurant) and other tasty HDO's, this one hour every week is quite an enjoyable one for all! Join us every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm at the Interlaken - see you then!
Check us out!
For those of you who jump right to reading this blog without looking at anything else on the home page (OK, stop laughing) you've missed some really cool things! We've been rolling the videos around here lately, and having fun showing off the property as well as sharing a new cleaning program we have in place.
First, the Virtual Tour of the Property. This video gives you a perfect and comprehensive tour of the entire Interlaken property including our Guestrooms, our restaurant Morgan's, ELLORA's Spa and Sanctuary, and our property amenities, including our beautiful lakefront. Although we'd prefer if you were actually here walking the grounds, this virtual tour is a great way to become familiar with the property and make the decision to come and stay with us.
The next video is one where we introduce our "Commitment to Clean" to all of you. Although cleanliness has always been on the top of our priority list, we've stepped it up this year with ways to insure the highest level of clean. This video describes our new tool, Hygenia, that allows us to test hard surfaces in each Guestroom to make certain all of the areas our Guests, touch are spotless. The other part of our "Commitment to Clean" is our new bed linens. Each set (300 thread count sheets, 4 pillowcases, and a cozy wonder blanket) are all cleaned and ready for every Guest upon arrival. Gone are the questionable clean duvets and tossed on the floor pillows - our fresh clean look assures a "no worries" night's sleep!
Check out our videos and watch for more to come!
"An apple a day keeps the Doctor away"
It doesn't get more local than this.
This apple tree is located right at our Countryside Building, the Tudor-style house that is adjacent to the Main Building. As you can see, it is full of ripe apples ready for picking! Need a snack? Feel free to pick some.
Looking for more than just one big tree? Visit Ellsworth Hill Orchard and Berry Farm on Route 4 in Sharon, CT, barely 20 minutes from the Interlaken. Not only do they offer about a dozen apple varieties (my favorite is Gala) for picking, there is just so much more there than that. Corn mazes and hay rides for the entire family, as well as a retail shop where you can decorate your home festively wiith gourds and pumpkins, and also taste the season with fresh apple cider and yummy cider donuts. Let this farm envelope you in all the wonderful fall goodness available right now! Hurry - soon enough we'll be talking Thanksgiving and the Holiday season!
One more reminder: We are offering our Fall Foliage Package this coming weekend... the perfect way to fall in love with the season and the Northwest Hills of Connecticut - an area that is well noted for its breathtaking beauty this time of year!

What a perfect day for a Fall wedding.
I saw Joann Scasso from Country Gardeners buzzing about and had to head over to see what beauty she created today in our wedding pavillion.
Joann knows alot both about flowers as well as weddings here at Interlaken, having held her own here many years ago. If you've had the pleasure of working with Joann you know her attention to detail and perfectionist nature in everything she touches. Once again she's made our space look amazing!
