Another fantastic turn-out for our "Meet and Greet" - newly named "Intermingle" - this evening from 5pm to 6pm! So many Guests and local business owners came over to our Executive Lounge for some Frozen Strawberry Margaritas and an assortment of hdo's. The hot topic among most was the 100th anniversary of the Aston Martin and the many events at Lime Rock Track this week. I met a wonderful family from Vancouver British Columbia visiting us for the week while their sons are at camp at neighboring Hotchkiss School. Like me, they have fallen in love with this area and hope to frequent it more often, and are even considering purchasing a home on the lake. For their last full day with us I suggested that they and their 10 year old daughter do some zip lining at the Catamount Adventure Park and then head up for some ice cream in Great Barrington, MA, a great place to spend a few hours. Route 41 is such a beautiful ride and they sure would appreciate the area even more after that adventure. I am confident that we'll see them again at Interlaken!
I also had the pleasure of seeing Emily and Eric from Salisbury Garden Center. Emily is the Queen of our gardens here at Interlaken, so along with her crew they keep our grounds looking beautiful. I heard a few compliments about the gardens from our Guests so it was great to have Emily on hand to personally accept the accolades!
Please join us next week (hopefully at our pool if it isn't too humid) at 5pm for some intermingling - we all would love for the chance to meet you!
"Kale pretending to be Seaweed". How cute is that?
If you are a blog reader than you know I am a big fan of kale, so kale doesn't have to pretend to be anything but kale to be highly rated in my book! But in the appetizer dish of "Sashimi of King Salmon, White Soy, Lime Pickled Cucumber, Kale Pretending To Be Seaweed" kale can pretend to be seaweed at any time. This lovely Heirloom Red Russian variety comes straight to us from Chubby Bunny Farm in Falls Village, CT. This kale is also used in my most favorite appetizer in Morgan's and that is the Local Honeycrisp Apple and Heirloom Kale Salad, Pecorino Vinaigrette, Black Olive Crunch. If you need a reminder of how good kale is for you, please look back at my blog from June 1st!
Welcome into our Atrium building in a new way! Previous to this renovation there was one door that led into our Atrium building that is home to the Atrium wedding/conference room, ELLORA Spa and Sanctuary, fitness room, the gameroom and library. That is one small door for the entrance to alot of things! So, another door and foyer area was built on the right that leads you directly into the Atrium area. Wedding guests - this is your door! If you have services at ELLORA Spa or would like to just visit her gift shop then choose the door on the left. Here's our new look from start to finish!

Bed, Bath and Beyond & Celebrity Chef, Fabio Viviani
Kristy Barto, Sales Manager at Interlaken, has some fun to share - take it away Kris!
Last Wednesday I had the pleasure of working with employees of one of my favorite stores to shop in, Bed, Bath and Beyond! We hosted the vendor showcase in our beautiful Garden Pavilion where products were featured from Dyson, Kitchen Aid, and Calphalon. The highlight of the vendor showcase was a demonstration presented by Chef Fabio Viviani using Bialetti Aeternum ceramic cookware. Not only was Chef Viviani engaging and humorous but this line of cookware which he endorses is incredible and it can only be found at Bed, Bath and Beyond! After the demonstration the group enjoyed our Backyard BBQ on the lawn and each received a sample of the Bialetti cookware.
After a morning of demonstrations, followed by lunch, the group divided up into teams and we facilitated Interlaken’s Radical Race as their team building activity. All 80 people set off across our 30 acres for two hours of tasks such as a blind wine tasting, a culinary activity, the Helium Stick activity and of course the “Human Knot”.
All in all it was another example of Interlaken’s versatility and ability to suit many different corporate needs.
Meet 'n' Greet Lakeside!
I promise not to blog every week about our Meet 'n' Greet that happens every Wednesdsay from 5pm for our Guests as well as local businesses, but this week was super fun as we held it Lakeside! I mean, who doesn't want to stand next to sparkling water with a tasty cocktail and yummy hdo's in hand and meet other nice people? Another great turn-out, thank you!
Our peaceful stroll to the lakefront...
Our destination. So pretty!
Something else "so pretty" - fresh Watermelon Mojitos. And I mean fresh!
Enjoy our manchego cheese or Rhode Island shrimp lettuce wraps.
Mingling inches from the water...
Remember, Guests, every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm!
Blanketing the front of our main building is this beautiful perennial known as Astilbe. Available in many shades of pinks from very dark to very pale to lavender to a bright red as well as white, this fern-like foliage plant is a shade loving plant and is just thriving in our main building garden. Sit on your private balcony and enjoy the garden view!
Pet of the Week
Hi, my name is Basil, (Ch. Buonaire's Pesto.) I met my new Mom and Dad in December. They were happy to have me because they lost their beloved Airedale in August and I came to them because I heard they like to spoil their dogs. I love new things and I went with them to the Interlaken Inn in Lakeville, CT. The Interlaken was so happy to meet me. They welcomed me and my family with a sign in the lobby. Then Winston came out from behind the desk to meet me and everyone was gathering around me making a fuss. Hmm, I was a little overwhelmed, but every day everyone greeted me and I warmed up just fine.
My Mom showed me the ropes by walking around the beautiful grounds at the Interlaken and we looked at all of the beautiful flowers and wonderful sculptures by Denis Curtiss. She took lots of pictures. We went for so many long walks on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail where I saw a big hairy thing called an alpaca and I heard peacocks (whatever they are) but I did not see them. They took me for walks in Great Barrington and Salisbury and they kept coming out with bags and boxes. The even bought some things for me.
My Mom tried to get me to do something new. She put these funny shoes on and put a loooooong leash on me. She went into this big body of water called a lake and convinced me to follow her. I did not like it much so I "froze." Mom said I did great and said next time I would be more willing to do more, like maybe go up to my elbows. I got out and then we sat by the lake and watched a bunch of people from a school doing a team building exercise organized by the Interlaken Inn. That was a lot of fun. The humans did some funny things trying to make rafts that had to go into the lake and hold 2 people to row out to a canoe and then back. This looks like a great thing for team building. Maybe if my mom and I made a raft I would have liked the lake more!
My parents said something about how nice it was to see Brenda during the breakfast in the newly decorated breakfast room. Then every night they said how delicious the dinners were at Morgan's and how Eric and Brandon and Wes and everyone at Morgan's are wonderful. They loved these things called apple fritters and grilled asparagus and beets and Morgan burgers and strip steak and the chicken and the special little rolls..boy they made me hungry when they would come back from their meals and talk about their breakfast or dinner. They even made something special for my Mom and made her Birthday special.
This going on vacation with my parents was fun. And with all of the places to go to nearby and people to meet at the Inn it kept us busy. No naps during the day made me very tired and we had a very nice pet friendly room in Sunnyside. The Interlaken gave us really nice comfy beds and let me tell you...I slept like a puppy. I had my toys to play with and there was a fridge in the room and kept my food cold.
I can't wait for them to take me away to Interlaken again. I rate it 4 PAWS UP!
Here's another series in the blog - "What's New"! This blog will be an easy one as there is always something new at Interlaken! This week it is invitation for our Manager's Cocktail party:
Dear Interlaken Guests,
You are cordially invited to attend our "Meet & Greet" every Wednesday from 5pm to 6pm at the Interlaken Inn. This week please join us in our restaurant, Morgan's, for some cocktails and hors d'oeuvres and meet the Interlaken staff as well as other Guests. Each week we'll choose a different location on property so by the end of the summer you'll have been around all of our 30 acres! See you then!
The Interlaken Staff
This week was a great turn-out! We were able to meet some local business members as well as some Interlaken Guests who loved talking about their Corvettes and racing at the Lime Rock Park. Wes served up some tasty Rhubarb Martinis and John passed around some hdo's, including duck terrine with cracked mustard and gherkins. Next week we plan to be Lakeside so be sure to save us an hour that afternoon. See you then!
This is Cornus Florida - also known as Flowering Dogwood. It is a species of flowering plant in the family Cornaceae and is native to eastern North America. These deciduous trees can grow up to 33 feet high, and usually are wider than they are tall when they are mature. Our dogwood tree is certainly not 33 feet high, but one that cannot go unnoticed at our pool garden. It is gorgeous! If you were at the Inn last week you would have noticed an arrangement in our lobby that also had dogwood stems, and that sure made a statement as well. Before you take that refreshing dip in our outdoor heated pool take a moment to admire the flowering dogwood!
