CHAIRish the ARTS program
Have you driven through the towns in the Northwest Corner and noticed unique chairs decorating some organizations and businesses? We are happy to support this amazing event, so let me tell you about the program.
The Northwest Connecticut Arts Council launched this tour in August where local artists decorated chairs of all shapes and sizes that are now on display at participating local businesses. The proceeds from the event will be divided amongst organizations to provide scholarships to those students interested in the Arts. Everyone is invited to take a tour of the chairs displayed, then will be eligible for prizes at the auction on October 17th at Mohawk Ski Lodge in Cornwall, CT. Learn more about the program at www.chairishthearts.org.
Another sign of fall around the Interlaken property - the emotional departure of our International students from various countries all over the world. Students are entitled to work in America for their summer recess as long as they have yet to graduate. Interlaken has hosted students from Bulgaria, Romania, Argentina, Brazil, Macedonia, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Hungary, Russia, and Sweden. Over the years we have learned so much from our International friends, and hopefully we have taught them a few things about American hospitality that they can bring back to their country. Three of our students are in their last year of educating themselves in European studies and economics. It would be wonderful to see one or all of them help to improve the crisis of the economy in today’s world.
My daily stroll
It’s quieter than usual this Sunday morning. It’s just after a shower, and the aroma of the wet leaves in the air - I know you know that smell – a flock of geese flying overhead, and then just pure silence. As I get closer to our lakefront, I stop to admire one little sailboat. What a peaceful morning. It’s so peaceful even the bunny didn’t move as I walked by. Fall foliage is just starting to show its touches of color – I am glad I brought my sweater as there is a chill in the air. We do have some great midweek packages to offer at the Interlaken so that you too can come and take advantage of this wonderful serenity.
Today’s fall wedding at Interlaken Inn
Again, a perfect crisp fall day at the Interlaken. The gardens surrounding the pavilion look gorgeous! For the cocktail hour, the Guests will be mingling outside in the courtyard amongst colorful mums, fall cabbage, and a new (to me anyway!) interesting dark purply plant called Millet. Inside the pavilion area, tables are set beautifully to accommodate 170 Guests (our maximum is 225). The centerpieces are amazing: tall, clear cylinders with a huge cluster of hydrangeas, pink gerber daisies, and purple statice, all grown and picked from the Bride’s Grandmother’s garden. Each chair is covered with a white cloth and a bright turqouise organza ribbon is tied on each one. We purposefully do our base cloths and chairs in white so that the bride and groom can accent with any color they wish. I only wish I had my camera so that I could show you how pretty this looks!
Teambuilding – the old-fashioned way.
We had the chance to provide one of our signature team building programs this week, and had the most perfect weather for it. Our client – National Grid – chose to experience our “Radical Race” teambuilding program, and we ran them through the paces on our 30-acre property.
Though it’s considerably smaller than its TV counterpart (The Amazing Race), it was still an immense amount of fun for this group, and they had an amazing time with our “clues” and tasks. This teambuilding program (and others) are described on our Teambuiding webpage.
While we are on the subject of weddings, I thought it would be fun to share some of the cute ideas I’ve seen at some past weddings held here at the Interlaken.
Wedding table at Interlaken Inn
I took my usual walk to the Atrium reception area before the event and noticed a very interesting centerpiece on each table. As I got closer, rather than seeing flowers, I saw they were actually cupcakes! Can you imagine that? Each cupcake was decorated like it was a flower, and there was one for each Guest at the table. What fun it must have been to be able to eat the centerpiece!
Another great idea was a couple put together a newspaper about their lives: a timeline of how they met, about their families, a crossword puzzle on how well you think you know the bride and groom, an itinerary of the wedding weekend, along with great photos of their families and friends. It was given to each Guest in their Welcome Bag upon check-in. It was an adorable way to summarize their life to this point before they exchanged vows at our colorful fall lakefront.
Email me any cute things you have seen at weddings you’ve attended – email@example.com. I’d love to hear them
Lakeville Lake is stunning!
Another gorgeous fall day in New England. There was quite a breeze today, so I was curious to see how our lakefront was reacting to this gentle wind. A less than 5 minute walk from the main property, down a shaded paved road, with a view of the water the entire way, I could see the docks moving gently in the lake. As I approached the lakefront, I was overwhelmed by the beauty of it: some trees just touched with color, swaying in the breeze, with sunlight dancing off the water. It always amazes me that there aren’t more people out on the lake given how beautiful and peaceful it is. (our boats, kayaks and canoes are all complimentary for Interlaken Guests) And did I mention that it is the deepest lake in Connecticut? Learn more about Lake Wononscopomuc at www.lakevillelakect.org., just one of the two lakes that the Interlaken Inn is set between. The weather is supposed to be just as beautiful tomorrow – I am certain the bride and groom are quite happy about that! More on their special day in tomorrow’s blog!
Strahm / Luke Wedding at Interlaken Inn in Lakeville CT
We were featured in the Fashion & Style / Weddings & Celebrations section of the New York Times in August when the stars of HGTV’s Cash in the Attic celebrated their union here at the Interlaken Inn. Greg Strahm and Tim Luke exchanged vows before their family and friends lakeside, then danced the night away in our beautiful four season atrium-style tent. It looks like Interlaken is becoming a regular in this section of the New York Times!
Fall dining – CT’s local, organic dishes
Check out The Interlaken’s fall menu in Morgan’s Restaurant. Exquisite dishes prepared from fresh ingerdients, using local whenever possible. Items include “Garganelli pasta with a variety of local “Farm Girl Farm” vegetables, arugula pesto, and pinenuts” and “Roasted organic chicken breast with preserved lemon-olive broth and herbed cous cous”. These and other excellent culinary delights are on the menu at Interlaken Inn!
Cardozo / Diner Wedding at Interlaken Inn in Lakeville CT
Are you wondering where the Cardozo and Diner wedding was that you recently saw in the New York Times September 20th edition? It was hosted here at the Interlaken Inn in Lakeville CT. The weather was gorgeous and the lakeside ceremony site was stunning.
