Are there any dates left this summer for the Lake Cottage?
The answer is YES!
But just one 5 day period – and that is check-in on Monday, August 9th and check-out Friday, August 13th. That gives you 5 days and 4 nights in this cozy cottage situated on Lake Wononpakook with your own private lake frontage. The Interlaken cottage has one King bedroom, a kitchenette, a living area and a bathroom. It also has a screened-in porch with chairs and a wooden swing to admire the lake – bug free! There is also a bonfire pit and a charcoal grill available for your use. You even have your own canoe – what more do you need?! Just time off from work on Monday, August 9th to Friday August 13th to be able to enjoy this special private getaway!
Can I build a raft at Interlaken?
The answer is “you sure can!”
One of our teambuilding program includes a Raft Expedition – sounds challenging, doesn’t it? One may think of an expedition as handling the rapids on a raging river – but the raft expedition at Interlaken actually challenges your creativity to make a raft with “interesting” items and then stay afloat! The pictures below show it best!

How many Wedding Guests can the Interlaken accommodate?
A very popular question amongst our engaged couples looking at our property for their wedding celebration!
The answer is up to 250.
WOW you might say, but depending upon the set-up the dance floor, whether you have a band or a DJ, a head table or a sweetheart table, our wedding pavilion can hold upwards of 250 Guests. Typically, our wedding counts range from 150 to 200 Guests, and this would be utilizing the standard set-up of the pavilion that most couples love. Tables can be arranged on the bricks under the pavilion as well as up on the deck area, and all tables are surrounded by lush greenery and glorious blooms this time of year. For those choosing a wedding in the cooler months, the sides of the tent would be up and heat would be available if necessary. Come see our pavilion to see if it’s perfect for you! Contact Brandon Scimeca to make an appointment!
How deep is the pool?
A great question and one often asked by parents of small children!
The answer is 3 feet graduating to 9 feet.
The pool at the Interlaken is set right in the middle of our courtyard area behind our main building. Many of our rooms have distant views of the pool, but it is also well hidden behind beautiful gardens. There are many chaise lounges (for lounging of course) and umbrellas to keep the sun away, and we just received another order of pool towels so they are abundant as well. The pool itself is crystal clear and heated to a temperature of 80 degrees. The 3 feet on the shallow end is perfect for the younger crowd, while those that want to dive and cannonball in have the deep end available. The pool opens at 8am and closes when the sun sets. Everyone needs to take a dip on these hot summer days!
How many can the Townhouse Suites sleep?
The answer is SIX.
The Townhouse Suites are the Interlaken’s only 2 level units that have a full kitchen, dining room, and living area on the first floor. The living area also has a fireplace and a sofa sleeper that opens up to a full-sized bed. There is also a half bath and laundry facilities on this level. Off the living room is a deck that sits upon the courtyard with distant views of the pool and our pavilion/garden area. As you move to the second level, you have a loft bedroom that has 2 double beds and then a full bathroom as well. Please keep in mind that while in the loft bedroom you can look down below at the living area, so the sleeping arrangement there is not private. If you would prefer a private bedroom, you can purchase the adjoining Townhouse room and receive even more sleeping space. The adjoining room has 2 double beds and a full bath. The deck area from this room connects with the deck area from the Suite for more outdoor sitting. The Townhouse units were meant to be sold in this fashion, so purchasing the Suite and the adjoining Room is preferred. When the Suite and Room are both purchased, pets are allowed as well (a $100 fee does apply), so that is an extra bonus! These units are ideal for families traveling together that are looking for some gathering space after the kids are put to bed. There are still some dates available in the next 6 weeks in our Townhouse area, so make your reservation on-line by clicking here or call us at 1-800-222-2909!
Isn’t it a beautiful day for a wedding?
I know, it is not like a typical question a Guest would ask about the Interlaken property, but it is still a question and keeps with my theme of Question/Answer this week!
The answer is clearly YES! It’s a wonderful day for a summer wedding – the sun is shining, it is warm (as July should be!), puffy clouds, nice breeze – and the pavilion is set perfectly for the Guests soon to arrive! So today’s answer is YES and my description are the following photos:

Do any of your rooms have views of the Lake?
Aaaaah, good question! Interlaken is situated between two lakes, and the only accommodation that you can see one of the lakes (Lake Won0npakook) from is our Lakeside cottage. Actually, “seeing” it from the cottage doesn’t do it justice - you are actually “on” the lake. The cottage not only gives you private lake frontage, but also your own canoe, your own dock and small beach area (with a small bonfire pit), and chairs for admiring that beautiful lake! The road leading to the cottage is a long and winding one, but once there, it opens up to this cute cottage that has a kitchenette, living area, bathroom, a King-sized bedroom and a screened in porch, complete with a wooden swing – again, for admiring the peaceful water. Click here for more information on this private getaway location! The cottage is typically rented on a weekly basis, so be sure to check now to reserve your preferred travel dates!
The rest of the accommodations at the main property do not have views of the lake, but with just a short walk across Route 112, you will be at the “sparkling water” of Lake Wononscopomuc!
Can you fish in the lake?
This is a common question we hear at the Interlaken, so I thought I’d answer it today! As a matter of fact, the next several blogs will be a Question/Answer session.
The answer to today’s question is: Yes!
Lake Wononscopomuc is excellent for fishing! I asked the Resident Fisherman, Ryan, his experiences of fishing at this, the deepest lake in Connecticut, and this was his response. The lake is full of trout, bass, and perch, and the best times to fish are before sunrise and before sunset. If the fish you catch are big enough, they can certainly become a meal for the family! A cute fact about fishing and Lake Wononscopomuc is it holds the State Record for the largest lake trout caught at 29 pounds and 13 ounces in 1918. Now that’s a big fish! We can’t guarantee you’ll find trout that big when you visit, but hey, you never know! You can also fish at our back lake (Lake Wononpakook)as well where Ryan says the perch are even better then the front lake! You can access the back lake from our property if you rent the lake cottage or via the Indian Mountain Road. You will need a CT license to fish, and Ryan suggests the easiest way to get one is to visit www.ct.gov and purchase it there. Grab your poles and we’ll see you soon!
DOG DAYS of Summer!
The Canaan Railroad days are in progress, and the Pet Adoption Center is doing very well! As of yesterday, the report was that seventy rescued dogs have found new homes! They (the Companion Pet Rescue Northeast) are set up at the Green at McDonald’s today through 5pm with more dogs ready to be adopted. You know if you stop by you will fall in love and head home with a canine in your car!
More dog fun: The Harlem Valley Festival of the Dog 2010 is happening today until 4pm at the Ledgewood Kennels in Millerton, NY. A dog show, dock dogs (measuring their jump into the water), flyball and frisbee, dog vendors – if you love dogs this seems like to the place to be today! Find them at 639 Smithfield Road in Millerton, less than 10 minutes from the Interlaken property.
Next Sunday, July 18th, Dyna is having a party for Dogs! Who is Dyna? Dyna is an Airedale who lives in West Cornwall, CT with her devoted owners, the Gannetts. Dogs and their owners can stroll through their landscaped park-like property and then have some fun time at the pool. The Gannetts have been acknowledged for their beautiful grounds by the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Gardens. Even if you don’t have a dog, you are welcome to stroll and admire this lovely property. This walk is part of a support effort of the Little Guild of St. Francis located in West Cornwall, so donations of $5 or more are appreciated. Click here for more information on this cute event.
Speaking of the Little Guild, planning is well underway for the 50th Gala celebration happening at the Interlaken property on Sunday, October 24th. The Little Guild has been placing homes for both dogs and cats for 50 years – everyone part of their organization has such a passion for what they do. Stayed tuned to my blog for more details on this upcoming event for all dog lovers!
It’s cool and breezy in the trees!
In hot weather like this, we all need to hear this kind of thing! And we also need to find out where these trees are! It’s at the Catamount Adventure Park in South Egremont, MA, just 25 minutes from the Interlaken property. They said this on Facebook the other day, and it makes me want to get harnessed up and zip through the trees! Sound like fun?! Let me tell you more: The park is open every day from 9am to 5pm and is for ages eight and up. If you’ve never done it, there’s a course for beginners, and if you’ve done zip lines several times before, there are also challenges for you as well! There are 115 platforms spread over the 5 acre wooded setting with ropes/cables/wood and zip lines to get you from one platform to another. The challenge is getting to each platform, and getting there as efficiently as possible. Don’t worry, you are always attached to the life lines between the platforms! I haven’t done this yet myself, but a Guest did and he told me it was a great way to spend quality time with his family – and it was lots of fun too! Visit Catamount’s website for more details – click here!
