Get a head start on SUMMER FUN!
Memorial Day weekend at the Interlaken is considered the kick-off to our summer season. The temperatures are finally warm enough for all of our outdoor amenities to be up and running. If you are able to join us this long weekend to get a head start on your summer season, read on to find out what is you have to look forward to at and around the Interlaken property!
The lakefront. So peaceful and private. Enjoy the cool waters - swim, canoe, kayak, picnic, swing, nap. Admire the beautiful views of Lake Wononscopomuc, the deepest lake in Connecticut.
The pool. Nice. Always freshly painted for the season, and always heated to a comfortable temperature of eighty degrees. Read your Twilight book in between dips as you lounge among pretty flowers and greenery.
Tennis. We provide the racquets and balls, just pick a side and challenge someone to a game on our newly resurfaced blue courts.
Spa. This word needs no further explanation! ELLORA Spa & Sanctuary will be certain to rejuvenate you. By appointment only.
Golf. Right next door at the Hotchkiss Golf Course. Nine holes with a par of 35. It's so close you can even walk there.
Biking. Rent bikes at Village Cycle in Millerton, NY and start your ride on the Harlem Valley Rail Trail. Start pedaling south on the paved railroad bed and take in amazing views of the farmland.
Adventure. Test your agility in the forest at Catamount Adventure Park with zip lines, ladders, bridges and other obstacles. Challenging fun for the entire family.
Hiking. Loads of local trails, the most prominent being Bear Mountain and the Appalachian Trail. Berkshire Hiking is a great website to visit for a detailed description of each hiking trail in Western Connecticut as well as in the Berkshires and Southeastern New York.
Horseback riding. Take a lovely trail ride through the rolling hills of Litchfield, CT at Lee's Riding Stables.
Racing. Lime Rock Park is just 6 minutes away from the Interlaken, and the Grand-Am Rolex Series kicks off the season over Memorial Day weekend. Visit this historic track just once and you'll be hooked!
Tea tasting. You knew this would be mentioned! You have to stop at Harney & Sons in Millerton, NY to see why Harney is my favorite tea. And then tell me what your new favorite is!
Antiquing. You can pretty much head in any direction from the Interlaken and find an abundance of antique shops ready for your treasure hunt. Johnson's Antiques in Millerton, NY has a huge showroom to get you started.
All of this, along with so many other reasons to get a head start on the summer season and visit Interlaken Memorial Day Weekend! Click here to go back to our home page and check availability for you and your family!

Woodside Work in Progress
Up until this very day, I have only posted "pretty" pictures on the Interlaken blog - but I couldn't resist taking a picture of what's happening out in one room in the Woodside building and letting you all know about it!
Woodside is the only building on property where pets are welcome (with the exception of the one new King room in the Sunnyside building), and we are now making these units more comfortable for you and your pet. Adult Guests will have more room in the bathroom area as we make that space one larger unit. Along the back wall, an exit door will be added allowing you and your pet to head out and enjoy a small courtyard area to relax, and perhaps to meet other dogs and their owners. The Woodside rooms will still be equipped with a Queen bed, a twin sofa sleeper, a flat screen TV with DVD player, a microwave and a refrigerator. The rooms will still have plenty of room for the posh pet bed for your favorite canine to sleep on! (read what Saxon has to say about those on our Facebook page!). The room is set be completed by mid-June, so if you are interesting in seeing it, just ask for Room 141 when making your reservation! I'll be sure to post a much prettier photo once it's all complete!
The countryside around Interlaken is breathtaking! This shot was taken on Route 41 just a few minutes from the Interlaken property. This is just one of many views that truly capture the beauty of this area of Northwest Connecticut.

What's your secret?
To get yourself geared up for the 11th annual Trade Secrets event happening the weekend of May 14th and 15th, why not pop Mom in the car this weekend and drive up to the Northwest Corner of Connecticut and visit the many nurseries and garden centers that abound in this beautiful area! Each place I have visited already seem to be just bursting with color and life - maybe not more than usual, but maybe just more appreciated after the super long winter we just had. Have you noticed how the white and pink flowering trees are just completely covered in blooms? The Interlaken property is fortunate to have some of these beauties...
Anyway, back to those nurseries and garden centers! So, you did it, you put Mom in the car and have the entire afternoon ahead of you. First stop: Salisbury Garden Center! For those who read my blog, you are nodding and saying "no kidding"! Salisbury Garden Center takes care of the gardens at Interlaken, so it's only appropriate that I mention them first! In addition to a wonderful variety of plants, trees and shrubs, you will also find a helpful and knowledgable staff ready to get your garden growing. Now, if you want some SUGAR in addition to plants, then Freund's Farm Market and Bakery in East Canaan, CT is a must stop for you! Just 20 minutes from the Interlaken can get you a freshly baked pie to serve to Mom! So your Mom is a bit eclectic? Maybe you should visit Beardsley Gardens in Sharon, CT as their motto is "from annuals to unusuals" - you could find that unique perenniel perfect for the unique Mom you have!
I could go on and on here, as there are plenty more great places in neighboring Dutchess County, NY and up in Great Barrington, MA. The staff at Interlaken will be happy to give you more details - give us a call at 1-800-222-2909 to make your reservations this weekend - and don't forget to make reservations for either a special dinner in Morgan's Saturday night or for a yummy Sunday brunch on Mother's Day! And remember - the Trade Secrets Event to support Women's Support Services is happening next weekend - find out more about that by clicking here - enjoy a wonderful garden and antique event while supporting a worthy organization!
Region One Art Show is here!
Many things happen in the Vineyard room at the Interlaken.
On mid-week mornings you can always find our complimentary deluxe continental breakfast, being happily tended to by Erin, a new member to the Interlaken staff. On Sunday mornings you might find a private hot buffet breakfast for the newly wedded couple and their family and friends. On a Thursday evening you might find the room is set-up theater style, equipped with a podium and mic for a corporate business meeting. On a Friday night you may see a family reunion dining privately while watching a slide show of collected photos. On a Tuesday afternoon you might find a conference group partaking in the Culinary Challenge. On a Saturday afternoon you might find it set-up for a wedding ceremony for 100 people. But if you come to the Interlaken this week, you will find it set-up with the most wonderful artwork from the students in the Region One school district. It's the annual spring art show where kids from Kindergarten through 8th grade display their creative talents for all to see! Refreshments were provided Tuesday evening while many (over 300!!) proud parents and children came over and admired the paintings, clay sculptures, drawings, and paper mache animals that are now making the Vineyard room so colorful and bright this week! And remember, Morgan's Restaurant is open every night at 5:30pm - treat your creative child to a special dinner made by our creative Culinary Chefs!
